Last weekend we decided to have a waffle party – something I haven’t really done since my first few years in college! I brought out the trusty old Toastmaster waffle iron to join the ranks… In the end we had about five different irons lined up making a number of different batters and a whole slew of yummy toppings to try out. I also managed to make a pretty good rendition of my mom’s fruit compote recipe.
In celebration of Sue’s birthday, I had no choice but to try and make a Waffle Cake! I am not a fan of real maple syrup, so this was definitely not my favorite cake: a spice cake base with maple buttercream frosting. My favorite part was cutting out the squares of cake… and discarding of them (via my tummy)!

Paul was gone (travelling around Europe on his honeymoon) for so long that corn started growing in his office! He came back this week to find a scarecrow, Paul Jr., had taken his place.

All said and done, this project was pretty inexpensive with a quick trip to Home Depot and a Feed store. One bale of straw was more than enough to cover the 10×11′ floor (about 6 inches high, in fact).

I was up in Vancouver this past week on business – the drive up was pretty easy, and crossing the border was pretty painless, too! The lady who checked my ID on the way into Canada wasn’t very friendly, though… But after crossing, I finally got to legitimately use the “MPH <-> km/h” button on my car!!
Anyway, although we were pretty busy looking for geniuses at UBC, I had a lot of fun checking out the city! I figured the best way to share my experiences are through a couple of haiku’s. Enjoy!
How do I drive here?
Signs missing and flashing lights.
My GPS rocks.
Tim Hortons donuts
got some loonie coins for change.
Do you like hockey?
Malaysian food, yum!
ping pong balls and Cuervo gold…
Night out on the town!
Celsius is nuts.
Kilometers per hour.
How can I survive?

David and I have started our new Rock Band 2 group, The Mediums. Ironic, since he always plays on expert level.
My player, Ektorp, is getting pretty good. I think I’ll name all my rock stars after Ikea furniture from now on…

Paul and Celeste are getting married on Saturday!! Of course, I decided it’s only right to tease Paul one last time before he flies up to Canada to tie the knot:

This icky looking confetti cake was my first attempt at making a sphere cake – and I think it turned out pretty well! The chain is made of Red Vines. Unfortunately I had to break my rule about only using edible materials because I couldn’t get the licorice to stay together without a little wire support.
