We noticed there were a lot of thoughtfully named cafes around Ireland. As mentioned previously, the big chains like Starbucks were very sparse. Though I’m not a coffee drinker, I had quite a few cups of it while over there!
In order to fully prepare ourselves for St. Patrick’s Day, we decided to each get a shamrock painted on our face right before the big parade in Dublin, Ireland. It was for a good cause, too (although I have no clue what we donated money to, we were just interested in getting our faces painted like the true tourists we were)!
I think dad got his on the wrong cheek, but I suppose that adds a little something extra to the group photo. Speaking of which, the group shot is the first of dad’s pictures to be featured on these posts. There’s a whole set of untapped folders I will start digging into soon!
These guys definitely weren’t camera shy… They were constantly trying to get into our shots while we toured the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland. I felt like I was in a Hitchcock film.
Since we spent a LOT of time in the car travelling around Ireland, I felt it was only fitting that I do a quick set of photos from the car. Here are some of my initial thoughts on what it was like to drive in Ireland.
- I kept getting in the wrong side of the car… I just didn’t know what to do
- Eventually I got used to driving on the “wrong” side of the road
- It was fun going 120 on the motorways (120 km/h, that is)
- I was not a fan of the roads that suddenly narrowed down to a single lane on the edge of a cliff
- Sometimes we had to stop and wait for the locals to cross the street
- Megan and I were happy and alert in the front…
- …while mom and dad typically slept in the back!
- And once in a great while, all four of us were awake and smiling!
Though we were eight timezones away, we never felt too far from home. I was surprised, however, that we could walk a mile between Starbucks locations without hitting any in between!
- I love the “Health Matters” store neighboring McDonald’s in Dublin, Ireland
- Even in Salzburg, Austria the arches had to make an appearance
- Hard Rock in Munich, Germany
