I’m “back”

Random Thoughts No Comments »

Sorry for the cheesy title and thanks to everyone for the well wishes!  As many of you know, I have some lower-back issues that are causing leg pain that had me laid up for a while.  It seems to be improving now, so I will keep my fingers crossed that it continues to do so while I start physical therapy and get back into work.

Unfortunately, I haven’t posted anything recently as I haven’t spent much time sitting at the computer the last few weeks.  Pretty soon I’ll get some cupcake photos up for you.  In the mean time, I highly recommend checking out my sister’s blog which will document her adventures in Europe next month.  She designed the theme and Flash header herself – very cool.

Goodbye, IMDB

Dear Internet Movie Database,

I hate to be so blunt, but there’s something that’s been on my mind and we can’t just keep ignoring the issues.  We’ve had our fun over the years, but I really think it’s time we see other people.

It’s not me, IMDB, it’s you.  You just give and give… but lately you’ve been giving too much.  I understand that your services are provided at no-charge to me.  I understand that a website needs a little extra cash on the side to keep itself going – even if that means bringing in little advertisements on the side.  But lately we’ve grown apart.  We’ve become so distant, so out of tune.  Suddenly you think you’re larger than life.  I load you up and you’re not even ashamed of the little ads you’re hanging out with these days.

Sometimes I just want to find out who played “Russian Suit #2” in the new Indiana Jones flick, when suddenly the cast list is overtaken by a giant “Bat Signal” floating around the page.  It’s very distracting.  Even insulting, really.  Am I not good enough for you that all the sudden you have to flaunt the Dark Knight in my face?

I thought, “hey – I’ll just refresh – maybe it was a mistake.”  I did my little F5 dance for you and began reading the plot summary when, low and behold, the words become riddled with bullet holes.  Disgusting.  Are you just trying to impress me?  It’s just slowing down my already-sluggish mail machine.

Sorry IMDB – I can’t take it anymore.  I thought you were “The One”, but I realized there are other movie databases in the WWW Sea.  Maybe one of them can make me happier.

I’m going away now and will never look back.  Please, don’t keep in touch – it’s too painful.

Your once-loyal patron,

Weather WarningYeah, if the local Washingtonians aren’t complaining about all the supposed rain they get up here, they are complaining about all the sun they are about to get for the next few days!

What really made me laugh is the “Weather Warning” that is being highlighted everywhere…

UNSEASONABLY HOT WEATHER WILL AFFECT WESTERN WASHINGTON TODAY THROUGH SATURDAY…
AFTER A COOL AND CLOUDY SPRING IN WESTERN WASHINGTON… A DRAMATIC SHIFT TO HOT AND SUNNY WEATHER WILL GET UNDERWAY TODAY. WIDESPREAD RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED ON FRIDAY.

KitchenAid Owner… For a Week

Memory Lane, Random Thoughts 1 Comment »

KitchenAid MixerYes, I was a proud owner of a KitchenAid stand mixer – for just over a week!  It was only with a heavy heart that I returned the mixer back to Costco tonight after giving it a week to “break in”.  Something had to be wrong with the motor, because it sounded awful and was so loud I couldn’t use it past quiet hours for fear of upsetting the neighbors.

Here’s my quick review on the stand mixer available at Costco:

+ 475 watts of pure mixing power… ooooh yeeeeaaah!
Noisy as all get out… maybe just a defective one?
+ Professional Lift model… easy to use!
You have to detach the beater to get the bowl out… not as easy as the tilt models.
+ Onyx Black finish… perfect for my taste!
The included digital timer was white… not Onyx Black
+ TONS of add-on attachments available… from pasta to ice-cream makers!

In conclusion: I don’t think I’m ready for a professional-grade mixer yet.  It was fun owning one for a week, despite the noisy defect, but I’ll have to stick to my $8 SunBeam electric hand mixer for now.
