Under the Knife…
Random Thoughts August 4th. 2008, 11:50pmWell, I finally had my back surgery last Thursday – so far, so good! I went in at 5:30am surprisingly calm, went through the routine preparations (couple hours), and was in and out of the operating room in less than two hours! In fact, everything went so smoothly that we were home around 11am.
I’ve been in “Recovery Mode” the past few days, just resting up to let things heal. On the second day I realized that my grumpy demeanor was probably due to the physio-sensor pad that I had been sleeping on all night (I guess they missed one) as seen here:
For any interested parties, I have a photo of some pictures they took… but you’ll have to click the link, first, to see them – be forewarned that they are pretty nasty!

On the right you can see the 2.5cm chunk of herniated disc that was removed – yuck! No wonder I wasn’t doing well!
So far I’m still noticing some tingling in my foot, but I can walk again without having to stop every few hundred feet! I think this will prove to be a huge help after everything gets back to normal. In a few more weeks I’ll start physical therapy again and hopefully build some strength back up. Thanks, everyone, for your help and support the past couple months! I’ll keep you posted as I continue to get back on my feet.

Hi Matt,
I’m glad to hear that your surgery went well. It is hard to believe that you had all of that removed. YIKES!! I’ve been thinking about you a lot and asking your Dad how you are doing. I didn’t want to bother you as I knew you were not feeling up to snuff and probably trying to do far more than you should on the computer as it was. I do hope you continue to improve rapidly and get back to feeling tip top once again. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Take care and don’t overdo it. Love and gentle hugs, Aunt Diane
