One of my favorite memories from Salzburg, Austria (and possibly the entire trip!) was the Mozart Dinner Concert in the Baroque Hall of the Stfitskeller St. Peter (said to be the oldest restaurant in Europe). Between the delicious courses of the meal, local musicians would perform some of Mozart’s most famous works accompanied by two amazing opera singers. Emphasis on the “amazing.” Unfortunately we don’t have any pictures of the performers, but Megan snapped a few shots of the dessert. Check out the cool cocoa silhouette of Mozart!

I’ll add my commentary to the final set of photos Megan took of the floats in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
- This poor guy was running around inside a giant hamster wheel – with no giant water bottle in sight.
- Merry Go Housework – these guys loved vacuuming and ironing so much they decided to do it in the middle of the street.
- Uh, I really couldn’t tell you what this was supposed to be. I was thinking Medusa, but… it’s just plain ugly.
More photos of the strange floats in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. I’ll do my best to clear up the story behind them all!
- The sickly-looking spoon people dawdled down the street. They were holding up the line big time.
- Aladdin strolled in on an elephant with Cleopatra. Little known fact: they are of Irish descent.
- This crazy DJ strolled in on a giant Sea Turtle. I’m naming him DJ Tortoise.
The floats in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade were not quite what I had imagined. We stood waiting for over an hour and a half until the parade made it down to us, then realized we couldn’t see very well over the crowd. Megan managed to snap a few photos, which I will try to describe here.
- Giant cracked (rotten?) eggs danced around the street, followed by people carrying giant feathers, followed by Clucks McGee here… anyone else getting hungry?
- These crazy spinning people made me dizzy and tired. I have no idea what they were supposed to be.
- These anorexic slinky people danced around. I think they fell out of a Tim Burton film and got lost.
I asked Megan to get a picture of a crosswalk signal in Dublin, Ireland. The funny video-game-like sounds that the lights emitted made crossing the street feel like a game of Frogger or Space Invaders!
You can find many examples of the sound on YouTube; I especially like this one that demonstrates how little people care about waiting for the walk signal.
